RERUM organized, together with the innovation department of the Barcelona City Council, called Barcelona Activa, and the company TheThings.io, a side-event workshop of the IoTSWC about “Building an IoT low-power application with 6LoWPAN and Contiki” based on the RERUM hardware platform, the RE-Mote, and the Contiki porting developed within the RERUM project.
The workshop, a three-hour hands-on seminar hosted by Antonio Jesús Liñán Colina and Marc Fàbregas Bachs, from Zolertia, took place on 24th October 2016 in the MediaTIC Building. The seminar was attended by 20 invited participants, mainly attendees of the side Congress and a clear majority of companies interested in understanding how to integrate some of the outcomes of the project, mainly on the hardware side, with their businesses.
At the workshop the attendees learned how to develop a ready-to-deploy prototype, integrating sensors and actuators with the RE-Mote low-power hardware, using the Contiki OS. Subsequently, they learned how to create a secure 6LoWPAN connected to TheThings.io, a company from Barcelona, providing a cloud-based IoT platform, that co-organized the event.
